Two ways to train
RangeSharp offers two training modes, each testing a different aspect of your range knowledge.
Decision mode
In Decision mode, RangeSharp deals you a hand and asks you to choose the correct action.
How it works:
- You see a poker table showing your position, the action so far, and your hole cards.
- You pick the action you think is correct (Raise, Call, Fold, etc.) by clicking the button or pressing a number key.
- RangeSharp immediately tells you if you’re right or wrong.
- If wrong, it shows you the correct action.
- Press Space to advance to the next hand.
What it tests: Your ability to make the right decision in real time — the same skill you use at the table.
Best for: Building quick recall and game-time decision making. This is the mode most players should use for daily practice.
Recall mode
In Recall mode, RangeSharp shows you an empty grid and asks you to reconstruct the range from memory.
How it works:
- You see a blank 13×13 grid and the spot information (position, action line).
- Paint the cells you think belong to each action using the action palette.
- When you’re done, click Check to compare your answer against the correct range.
- RangeSharp shows a diff highlighting cells you got right, missed, or got wrong.
What it tests: Your deep knowledge of the complete range. This is harder than Decision mode because you have to reproduce the entire grid, not just answer one hand at a time.
Best for: Verifying that you truly know a range, not just the obvious hands. Use this after you’ve reached proficiency in Decision mode.
Which mode should I use?
| Situation | Recommended mode |
|---|
| You’re learning a new range | Decision |
| You want quick daily practice | Decision |
| You can already answer most hands correctly | Recall |
| You want to test deep range knowledge | Recall |
| You’re preparing for a session and want to review | Decision |
Most players should start with Decision mode and switch to Recall mode for spots they’ve already practiced extensively. The progression is: learn the range → drill decisions → verify with recall.
Quick train vs study plan training
There are two ways to start a training session:
| Method | How | When to use |
|---|
| Quick train | Press ⌘T on any spot in the Study workspace | You want to drill a single spot right now |
| Study plan | Open a plan in the Train section and click Start | You want a structured session across multiple spots |
Both methods support Decision and Recall modes.
